Le Grand Hotel Paris France

We arrived in Paris on the morning of November 24th after an exhausting flight from Mumbai that didn't leave India until 3 AM. We cleared immigration in Mumbai so the arrival in Paris was a breeze; just a passport stamp. I wanted to use the transit system so we found our way to the regional train and got tickets for 8.50 euros. The regional train into the city was easy, but the transfer to the metro system involved carrying bags up stairs. It was a lot easier last time we were here and just had backpacks. We arrived at our hotel, the Grand Hotel Leveque on Rue Cler a little before noon. Of course the room wasn't ready so we left our bags and went for a walk around the Eiffel Tower. The temperature was in the 50s but it felt cold after the 90 degree heat of Mumbai. La Rue Cler is a pedestrian street of small shops; butchers, grocers, wine, cheese, bakeries, restaurants and flower shops. We stopped at the fromagerie for some semi-hard goat cheese, took it next door where we bought a ham baguette, and put the two together for an incredible sandwich. That was the beginning of eating our way through Paris.
The Grand Hotel Leveque is a Rick Steves recommendation in the value category. For about $150 a night you get a tiny, clean room in a fantastic location. The hotel decor is ultra modern. I've seen the term "postage stamp" used to describe small rooms, which seems like a good fit for our room, but I haven't seen a good term that would describe the bathroom. Maybe slit would do. It is about the size of my bathtub if you put a tiny sink next to a toilet with leg room for someone under 5' 5", next to a tiny shower inside the bathtub. Fortunately we're under 5' 5".
We went immediately to sleep and only got up long enough to cross the street for a crepe before going back to sleep. Tomorrow we'll see Paris.
